Abstract:The hypothalamus, which includes the zona incerta, contains a discrete population of catecholaminergic neurons marked by the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH). As multiple chemical messengers may coexist in each neuron, we determined if hypothalamic THimmunoreactive (ir) neurons may also express glutamate or GABA. We used Cre/loxP recombination to express enhanced GFP fluorescence in neurons that express the vesicular glutamate (vGLUT2) or GABA transporter (vGAT) and determined TH immunoreactivity in glu… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
