Distribution of metals in soils and plants around mineralized zones at Cartagena-La Unión mining district (SE, Spain)

Abstract: A geochemical and mineralogical characterization of three zones (namely oxides zones, hydrothermal alteration zone and mining wastes zone) from a mineralized zone in the upper part of the Cartagena-La Unión range was carried out by analysing rocks, soils and three plant species (Piptatherum miliaceum, Ditrichia viscosa and Hirsfeldia incana). The transference and bioavailability of some metals (especially Pb, Zn, As and Fe) from soils to plants was also checked. Results show that rocks have a large content of … Show more

“…Chemical interactions between soil and As are important to understand its fate in the environment and choose the suitable management strategy (Bolan et al 2014 ). These last years, part of the research concerned remediation (Gonzalez-Fernandez et al 2011 ;Drouhot et al 2014 ;Jana et al 2012 ;Flakova et al 2012 ). In this context, the better understanding of the fractionation and the potential of mobilization of arsenic is required and helpful to improve the efficiency of these technics.…”

“…Some other previous studies along this area were focussed on the characterization of heavy metals content at the alluvial plain and the transfer of these metals both to vegetation and to the water media (Gonzalez-Fernandez, Queralt et al 2010b;JimenezCarceles, et al 2008;Alvarez-Rogel et al 2007).…”
