Distribution of Emerged Energy for Daylight Illuminate on Prismatic Elements

Abstract: Prismatic elements are typical devices of natural light illumination system for redirecting and collecting daylight. Based on the principles of optics, this paper presents a simple mathematical matrix ray-tracing methodology through which a detailed intensity distribution of parallel light beam incident onto a right angled prism from different incident angles can be calculated precisely. We also present the distribution of the secondary emerged intensity from a prism illuminated by the emerged light of an adja… Show more

“…As a result, the collimator increased the efficiency by 44% in the present study. In the previous study, the efficiency was low because most of the light was not entered into the transmission media due to nonparallel light from the light collector [8,9]. To analyze the output of the light collector, a receiver was placed at the output to obtain distribution angles that were roughly −25, 0, and 25 deg, as shown in Fig.…”

“…In the future, we will perform real experiments to collect light distribution from the output of the light-brick [8,9], and this light distribution will be used as input to the collimator to achieve practical results. Further, hardware design of the collimator will be manufactured for real experiments.…”

“…The sunlight concentrator is a key component that introduces sunlight into a solar energy collection system. Although many studies on trough or lens are available, including those conducted by [2][3][4][5][6][7], only a few studies have been focused on prism layouts. Prismatic elements (prisms) are typical devices for natural light illumination systems used for redirecting and collecting daylight.…”

“…The natural light illumination system which is compounded by daylight collector, light guide and emission element, the possibility of controlling direct daylight by optical designed systems for comfort illumination or energy conservation has been reported by many authors in the past [7][8][9][10]. The prismatic elements can be part of daylight illuminate system that be located at the roof or façade of buildings used as the collectors to collect and guide illuminate daylight for reducing glare and saving energy [11][12][13][14]. One of the challenges of natural light illumination is the difficulty in getting a uniform illuminated condition during a day.…”
