In this theoretical survey, we compared and contrasted the substituent influences on stability, aromaticity, band gap, atomic charge distribution, and reactivity of 54 singlet and triplet fused Hammick germylenes derived from germabenzopyridine-4-ylidene as well as the synthesized five-and sixmembered ones by Herrmann and Driess, respectively. Investigations show (1) the lowest and the highest singlet-triplet energy difference (ΔΕ s-t ) is demonstrated by fusion of two phosphole rings and two furan rings in orthopositions (35.6 and 253.6 kJ/mol, respectively) compared with those of the synthesized germylenes (208.8 and 179.9 kJ/mol, respectively). (2) Whereas fusion of benzene, pyridine, phosphinine, and phosphole rings thermodynamically destabilizes the corresponding germylenes, fusion of pyrrole, furan, and thiophene rings stabilizes the corresponding germylenes. (3) The tendency of substituent influences in number and size of rings is arranged by two fivemembered rings > one five-membered rings > one six-membered rings > two six-membered rings. (4) While pyrrole, furan, and thiophene rings kinetically stabilize the corresponding germylenes, other rings destabilize their germylenes with respect to germapyridine-4-ylidene and the isolated germylene's Driess. (5) All singlet Hammick germylenes reveal lower nucleophilicity and softness, also higher electrophilicity, chemical potential, and global hardness than their scrutinized triplet states. (6) We are waiting for experimental testing and verifications to fuse heterocyclic rings to the germapyridine-4-ylidene's plane in a favorable spatial position to act not only as π-electron giver but also σ-electron receiver.

Landslides are one of the most devastating natural hazards causing huge loss of life and damage to properties and infrastructures and adversely affecting the socioeconomy of the country. Landslides occur in hilly and mountainous areas all over the world. Single, ensemble, and hybrid machine learning (ML) models have been used in landslide studies for better landslide susceptibility mapping and risk management. In the present study, we have used three single ML models, namely, linear discriminant analysis (LDA), logistic regression (LR), and radial basis function network (RBFN), for landslide susceptibility mapping at Pithoragarh district, as these models are easy to apply and so far they have not been used for landslide study in this area. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of these single models for correctly identifying landslide susceptible zones for their further application in other areas. For this, ten important landslide affecting factors, namely, slope, aspect, curvature, elevation, land cover, lithology, geomorphology, distance to rivers, distance to roads, and overburden depth based on the local geoenvironmental conditions, were considered for the modeling. Landslide inventory of past 398 landslide events was used in the development of models. The data of past landslide events (locations) was randomly divided into a 70/30 ratio for training (70%) and validation (30%) of the models. Standard statistical measures, namely, accuracy (ACC), specificity (SPF), sensitivity (SST), positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), Kappa, root mean square error (RMSE), and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), were used to evaluate the performance of the models. Results indicated that the performance of all the models is very good (AUC > 0.90) and that of the LR model is the best (AUC = 0.926). Therefore, these single ML models can be used for the development of accurate landslide susceptibility maps. Our study demonstrated that the single models which are easy to use and can compete with the complex ensemble/hybrid models can be applied for landslide susceptibility mapping in landslide-prone areas.

Investigation of Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Triple Tube Latent Heat Storage System Using Circular Fins with Inline and Staggered Arrangements

Inherent fluctuations in the availability of energy from renewables, particularly solar, remain a substantial impediment to their widespread deployment worldwide. Employing phase-change materials (PCMs) as media, saving energy for later consumption, offers a promising solution for overcoming the problem. However, the heat conductivities of most PCMs are limited, which severely limits the energy storage potential of these materials. This study suggests employing circular fins with staggered distribution to achieve improved thermal response rates of PCM in a vertical triple-tube heat exchanger involving two opposite flow streams of the heat-transfer fluid (HTF). Since heat diffusion is not the same at various portions of the PCM unit, different fin configurations, fin dimensions and HTF flow boundary conditions were explored using computational studies of melting in the PCM triple-tube system. Staggered configuration of fin distribution resulted in significant increases in the rates of PCM melting. The results indicate that the melting rate and heat charging rate could be increased by 37.2 and 59.1%, respectively, in the case of staggered distribution. Furthermore, the use of lengthy fins with smaller thickness in the vertical direction of the storage unit resulted in a better positive role of natural convection; thus, faster melting rates were achieved. With fin dimensions of 0.666 mm × 15 mm, the melting rate was found to be increased by 23.6%, when compared to the base case of 2 mm × 5 mm. Finally, it was confirmed that the values of the Reynolds number and inlet temperatures of the HTF had a significant impact on melting time savings when circular fins of staggered distribution were included.
