“…The total concentration of the 16 PAHs (ΣPAH) in the ECS reported by Lin et al () from 2006 ranged from 38–308 ng g −1 (dry weight (dw); all further results refer to this), with a mean of 122 ± 60 ng g −1 (Figure a and Table ) , while those in our results from 2018 ranged from 8–414 ng g ‐1 , with a mean value of 112 ± 77 ng g ‐1 (Figure d and Table ). The mean value of ΣPAH in 2018 was lower than that in 2006, but the concentration range was larger, which is surprising because PAHs mainly originate from human activities and their concentration in the environment has a good correlation with socioeconomic development (Liu et al, ; Wang et al, ). Between 2006 and 2018, China's economy developed rapidly, especially in the Changjiang (Yangtze) River catchment, which should have released increasing amounts of PAHs into the environment.…”

“…We conducted grain‐size analysis using the methods described in Wang et al (). Briefly, all samples were treated to remove organic matter using H 2 O 2 solution (10%) and calcium carbonate using hydrochloric acid (10%), then dispersed in sodium metaphosphate for 24 hr.…”

“…erefore, the spatial patterns of heavy metals are closely related to sediment types [9]. e spatial distributions of heavy metals are often consistent with those of fine-grained sediments [10]. Most heavy metals become part of the sediment through different biogeochemical processes, which trigger precipitation and deposition [11].…”
