Abstract: Cocaine-and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) peptides are widely expressed not only in the brain but also in numerous endocrine/neuroendocrine cells as well as in neurons of the peripheral nervous system. However, SOM, CAL, and NK1R are examples of markers that identify subclasses of these neurons in the spinal cord or differentiate their projecting terminals in pelvic ganglia ( Sasek et al, 1984 ; Keast and de Groat, 1989 ; Dhami and Mitchell, 1991 ; Keast, 1991 , 1994 ; Papka and McNeill, 1993 ; Jen et al, 1996 ; Pidsudko, 2014 ; Zacharko-Siembida et al, 2017 ).
