A biota edáfica apresenta importância fundamental nos processos naturais. O clima, os tiposde culturas utilizadas e as práticas agrícolas adotadas podem ser limitantes para a diversidade biológica dacomunidade desses invertebrados. A região noroeste do Rio Grande do Sul é uma das principais produtorasde grãos do Estado, entretanto, estudos avaliando a qualidade da biota edáfica são escassos nestes cultivos.Objetivou-se identificar os invertebrados edáficos em duas épocas sazonais distintas em áreas agrícolascultivadas com diferentes tipos de coberturas vegetais em Santo Ângelo/RS. Para tanto, foram realizadascoletas em cinco diferentes coberturas vegetais (soja, milho e milheto no verão e trigo e consórcio de naboforrageiro/azevém no inverno), utilizando armadilhas de queda “pitfall trap” por quatro dias no campo.Foram calculadas a abundância, a riqueza, a frequência relativa e os índices de diversidade para cadaárea avaliada. No total foram amostrados 11 diferentes ordens e 1.083 indivíduos, dos quais 1.051 foramartrópodes da classe Insecta, Arachnida e Entognatha. Observou-se que tanto a cobertura vegetal, quanto asazonalidade influenciaram a comunidade de invertebrados edáficos no noroeste do Rio Grande do Sul. Asáreas cultivadas com milho, milheto e nabo/azevém foram as mais diversas, enquanto que a área com trigo foi a mais dominada, apresentando uma alta abundância de Colembolla. No período do inverno predominaram os colêmbolos enquanto que no verão foram as formigas, principalmente no milheto e na soja.

Aim We examined the influence of regional, spatial, and local variables (edaphic characteristics and vegetation structure) on patterns of arthropod variation along the Chilean coast by partitioning beta diversity into its turnover and nestedness components. Location 2,000 km along the coast of Chile. Methods We collected ground‐dwelling arthropod samples from nine marshes during two seasons. A clustering method was used to examine patterns of arthropod similarity across salt marshes. We also calculated multiple‐site beta diversity and partitioned it into its turnover and nestedness components. Variation partitioning was then used to identify the major drivers of their variation (regional, spatial, and local variables). We compared results for the whole arthropod community and for the most abundant, speciose, and functionally different groups, Crustacea, Coleoptera, and Araneae. Results Salt marsh arthropod similarities did not depend on the geographic proximity of sites. Arthropod beta diversity was mainly determined by its turnover component. A significant fraction of community variation was related to the spatially structured variation of climate or edaphic factors. However, the exclusive contribution of spatial variables had also a role. Main conclusions Each salt marsh on the Chilean coast has the capacity to accommodate unique invertebrate taxa. Species sorting along the climatic gradient together with dispersal‐based processes seems the key structuring force of the arthropods and Crustacean variation in the marshes we studied, while species sorting alone might be more important for Coleoptera variation.

To examine the biodiversity restoration of marshlands after human-induced disturbances, a long-term chronosequence study of Collembola communities was completed that included cultivated treatment (marshes with 15 years of soybean cultivation; CU15), two restored treatments (with 6 and 12 years of agricultural abandonment; RE06 and RE12, respectively), and an intact marshland (IM) as a reference in the Sanjiang Plain, Northeastern China. Changes in the soil properties and Collembola communities under different treatments were analyzed. Soil parameters (i.e., soil organic carbon, available N, P and K, soil moisture) significantly increased from the cultivated treatment to the 6-year agricultural abandoned, and then 12-year agricultural abandoned treatment, indicating that the degraded soil began to recover after agricultural abandonment. The density, species richness and diversity of Collembola in RE12 were significantly higher than in RE06 and CU15, and even surpass the IM, indicating marshland restoration (after 12 years of agricultural abandonment) benefited recruitment and reconstruction of Collembola community. We found soil surface-dwelling Collembola recovered faster than eu-edaphic species, that is probably due to some common traits (i.e., parthenogenesis and fast dispersal) between epi- and hemi-edaphic species. The changes in the vegetation and soil properties during long-term soybean cultivation and agricultural abandonment were the key factors affecting the composition, density, and species richness of soil Collembola.
