Distributed virtual environments-an active future?

Abstract: This paper asks whether Active Networks might offer potential solutions to scalability issues for large scale Distributed Virtual Environments. The paper considers current directions in the architecture of DVE systems and recent work in Active Network research and suggests potentially beneficial synergies between the two fields. This project is the proposed PhD research of the first author (TB).
