Distributed Trust Based Authentication Scheme in a Clustered Environment Using Threshold Cryptography for Vehicular Ad Hoc Network

Abstract: A Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network, or VANET, is a form of Mobile Ad-Hoc Network to provide communications among nearby vehicles and between vehicles and nearby fixed equipments. Security has become a prime concern in providing communication between these vehicles. Unlike wired networks, the characteristics of Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) pose a number of non-trivial challenges to security design. In this paper, the authors present a threshold security mechanism with a mobility based Clustering for Open Inter Ve… Show more

“…Also Key management issues in VANET environment was discussed in many papers such as [9] and [10].In [9], the basic structure of VANET and the basic requirement of a key management scheme are introduced, while the authors in [10] proposed a distributed key management scheme with protection against RSU compromise in VANET using group signature. Some previous works on VANET authentication can be found in [11,12]. These works studies the various methods to achieve secure message and entity authentication and the required methods to obtain flexible, extensible, and efficient VANET verification process.…”

“…A large amount of research proposed solutions to these problems by decentralizing the CA functionalities. Ramaraj et al (2009) proposed a self organized key management based on clusters. They proposed a model for key management where the VANET is divided into a number of clusters and the clustering algorithm is based on mobility.…”
