Distributed System of Dams for Flood Protection of Urban Land to Ensure Sustainable Development

Abstract: Abstract. The article considers innovative materials and structures for multipurpose flood protection self-regulated dams. Russian and foreign experiences in flood consequence, as well as conceptions for protection of urban land in the context of climate change are analyzed. Method for flood protection is proposed and is proved by creation of distributed system of self-regulated flood-control distributed system of dams in a river basin.

“…Further damage increases due to floods are expected worldwide due to climate change and growing vulnerability. Therefore, to address the projected increase in flood risk, a combination of structural and non-structural flood risk mitigation measures must be considered as the most suitable adaptation strategy [16].…”

“…The object of the research is the creation an innovative system for managing extreme water discharges in a river basin by hydro systems on the main river and hydro systems with self-regulating reservoirs distributed on the river's side tributaries. This will provide flood control throughout the river basin and minimize the damage during the floods [29,30].…”
