Distributed Secondary Control for Islanded Microgrids Cluster Based on Hybrid-Triggered Mechanisms

Abstract: Considering the communication resources limitation, the hybrid-triggered mechanism based distributed control of islanded microgrids cluster is proposed, which can restore the frequency to the rated value and realize the active power sharing when the disturbance occurs. The hybrid-triggered mechanism consists of the self- and event-triggered mechanisms, which are configured at each leader and follower distributed generation to determine the inter-microgrids and intra-microgrid information transmission, respecti… Show more

“…To regulate voltage and frequency deviations generated by virtual inertia and virtual impedance in the primary controllers, secondary control (SC) is typically employed [11]. Secondary control includes a communication system to regulate active/reactive power sharing and coordinate the nominal values used by DERs at the primary level [12], [13], [14].…”

“…This algorithm allows for multiple distributed systems to coordinate with minimal communication burden [16]. On a similar topic, Weng et al also developed a hybridtriggered mechanism for distributed secondary control of islanded microgrids [17]. Luo et al developed a multi-timescale rolling optimal dispatch methodology, which they applied to grid-connected AC/DC hybrid microgrids.…”

“…1. Individual MG control is accomplished by the primary control level and the coordination control among IMGs is attained by the secondary control level (Liu et al, 2017;Ren et al, 2018;Lai et al, 2019;Weng et al, 2020;Lu et al, 2020;Wu et al, 2019;He et al, 2019). Although, the grid-connected operating mode is not of interest in this paper, it is worth mentioning that its required control should be accomplished in the global/tertiary control layer.…”

“…Pinning consensus-based distributed secondary control: In synchronous IMGs, generally, the pinning consensus protocol is used, which is a two-layer communication infrastructure including intra-MG and inter-MG layers (Liu et al, 2017;Ren et al, 2018;Lai et al, 2019;Weng et al, 2020;Lu et al, 2020;Wu et al, 2019;He et al, 2019). For such a nested IMG system with large number of DERs, the pinning consensus-based secondary control technique is much appropriate due to its need to coordination control for a number of DERs, i.e.…”
