Electronic documents constitute specific units of information, and protecting them against unauthorized access is a challenging task. This is because a password protected document may be stolen from its host computer or intercepted while on transfer and exposed to unlimited offline attacks. The key issue is, therefore, making document passwords hard to crack. We propose to augment a common text password authentication interface to encrypted documents with a biometric facial identity verification providing highly personalized security mechanism based on pseudo-identities. In consequence the encrypted document can be unlocked with the legitimate user’s face, while for everyone else stays encrypted with a hard to crack text password. This paper makes two contributions: (1) The proposed scheme enables password autofill without referring to any external service, which significantly limits the possibilities of an attack by adversaries when opening, reading and editing the protected document, (2) By the adoption of biometric verification techniques enabling fine-tuning of false acceptance and false rejection rates, it provides for responsible adaptation to users.

Active digital documents are not only capable of performing various operations using their internal functionality and external services, accessible in the environment in which they operate, but can also migrate on their own over a network of mobile devices that provide dynamically changing execution contexts. They may imply conflicts between preferences of the active document and the device the former wishes to execute on. In the paper we propose a solution for solving such conflicts with automatic negotiations, allowing documents and devices to find contracts satisfying both sides. It is based on a simple bargaining model reinforced with machine learning mechanisms to classify string sequences representing negotiation histories.

This paper is concerned with storing music data with the use of document architecture called Interactive Open Document Architecture (IODA). This architecture makes it possible to create documents which are executable, mobile, interactive and intelligent. Such documents consist of many files that are semantically related to each other. Semantic links are defined in XML files which are a part of a document. IODA documents with music data have been called IODA Music Documents. Such documents consist of a file with sound, a file with lyrics and many other files with data related to the document. It is easier to search for music files in a collection of music stored in the form of IODA Music Documents. Users can search for songs on the basis of a part of their lyrics or they can perform the search with the use of humming queries. In this kind of a search users record a part of a melody that they remember and the searching system retrieves music files that match the recorded melody.
