Distributed algorithm for target localization in wireless sensor networks using RSS and AoA measurements

Abstract: This paper addresses target localization problem in a cooperative 3-D wireless sensor network (WSN). We employ a hybrid system that fuses distance and angle measurements, extracted from the received signal strength (RSS) and angle-ofarrival (AoA) information, respectively. Based on range measurement model and simple geometry, we derive a novel non-convex estimator based on the least squares (LS) criterion. The derived non-convex estimator tightly approximates the maximum likelihood (ML) one for small noise lev… Show more

“…Therefore, the warehouse monitoring system based on wireless sensor network can effectively solve the problems such as numerous equipment, complex wiring, poor scalability, high management and maintenance cost. However, the system still cannot meet the requirements of "intelligent logistics" for intelligent warehousing monitoring system "as stated in [1]". In order to realize the intelligence of the warehouse monitoring system, it is necessary to process the information of the whole process of the system operation.…”

“…The idea of the algorithm is to measure the proximity of nodes by using the number of common nodes of two neighboring nodes, and to calculate the relative distance of neighbor nodes. A routing protocol is built in so that the path from the node to the base station is the shortest [7][8]. The distance information of the nodes is stored in the neighbor list and sent to the base station, and the base station uses the improved MDS-MAP algorithm for the positioning.…”

“…The beacon nodes are arranged in the monitoring area in the semi-circular or round way. This deployment improves the positioning accuracy, and it is also convenient for the WSN being applied in environmental monitoring, military reconnaissance, or target tracking [7]. A routing protocol is built in, and the path to the base station is created to transmit sensing data to the base station, reducing the energy consumption of nodes.…”

“…When the signal strength is greater than a threshold value, it requires to trigger the interrupt signal to report the arrival of ultrasonic signal. The trigger circuit will bring about a certain delay, and the delay will be calculated to the ultrasonic wave arrival time, thus increasing the ranging distance [8]. In addition, with the increase of transmission distance, the ultrasonic signal has a certain attenuation.…”
