Distinctive Features of Oil and Gas Regions at the North of Russia

Abstract

The paper explores specifics inherent to the oil and gas producing regions at the
 North of Russia. Classic and contemporary approaches to classifying oil-andgas
 regions of Russia are presented, their distinctive features as objects of
 analysis and management are outlined/ Special attention is given to classifying
 the northern regions in the terms of degree of their resource potential
 development. As is shown, the main features of oil and gas producing regions
 at the North of Russia are the following: sector-specific economic structure,
 extreme environmental — climate and natural — conditions, complexity of
 socio-economic systems arrangements.
