Distinction between Intermediates Produced in Main and Side Electrodic Reactions

Abstract: A diagnostic criterion was developed to distinguish between an intermediate formed in an over-all reaction path and a product in a parallel electrochemical reaction. It utilizes the method of the rotating-disk electrode with a concentric ring, first proposed by Frumkin and Nekrassov. From the dependence of currents at the disk and at the ring electrode on the rate of disk rotation, individual rates of parallel reactions can be obtained.

“…In order to better illustrate the effect of the A-site on the ORR pathway, we estimated the phenomenological electron transfer rate constant for the four-electron step (k direct ) employing the Damjanovic model [15,[46][47][48][49]. Figure 6a, b contrast the value of k direct (0.65 V) as a function of the A-site ionic radius and the mean Mn-O bond length obtained from the EXAFS analysis (Table S3).…”

“…Various kinetic models for ORR have been developed to understand the reaction pathways. The first model was developed by Damjanovic et al [8] following which Wroblowa et al [9], and Anastasijević et al [10,11], proposed extensive models.…”
