Distinct gene expression profiles characterize the histopathological stages of disease in Helicobacter- induced mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma

Abstract: Long-term colonization of humans with Helicobacter pylori can cause the development of gastric B cell mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, yet little is known about the sequence of molecular steps that accompany disease progression. We used microarray analysis and laser microdissection to identify gene expression profiles characteristic and predictive of the various histopathological stages in a mouse model of the disease. The initial step in lymphoma development is marked by infiltration of reactive ly… Show more

“…Similarly, SPRR1A and SPRR2A are strongly induced in cardiomyocytes responding to biomechanical/ischemic stress, and these proteins could protect cardiomyocytes against ischemic injury [30]. The SPRR2A protein was also reported to be highly induced in gastric mucosa upon Helicobacter pylori infection in the human stomach [31]. And SPRR genes are activated during IL-13 mediated immune response in the lung [32].…”

“…Probe labeling and DNA microarray experiments were performed as described at http://cmgm. stanford.edu/pbrown/protocols/index.html [17]. Hybridized chips were scanned using Affymetrix 428 TM array scanner and the images were analyzed using GenowizTM software (Ocimum Biosolutions, Hyderabad, India).…”

“…Examples include greater than 100-fold increases seen in the intestine after small bowel resection 10 or after introduction of commensal bacteria into germ-free mice. 11,12 SPRR proteins are also expressed in ovarian epithelial cells, 13 in uterine lining epithelium at certain stages of the estrous cycle, 8,14 during development of the prostate gland, 15 and in regenerating peripheral neurons. 16 Except for neuronal regeneration, the physiologic significance of SPRR expression under these circumstances is assumed to be broadly related to barrier function because of their role in the skin.…”
