“…Since its original anatomic description in 1994, the semimembranosus (SM) bursa has been increasingly recognized as an important cause of medial knee pain [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. SM bursopathy can occur in isolation or in conjunction with distal SM tendinopathy.…”

“…Furthermore, for patients undergoing SM there is little evidence to suggest which technique is most beneficial to use. Some studies used tenotomy,10 12while another study used tenodesis of the ST tendon to sartorius, in contrast to gracilis which was used in the management of the patient in this case report 8. The rationale for the type of SM used by studies was largely based on the fact that the ST tendon is used for ACL reconstruction without any perceived adverse outcome 10 12.…”

“…The decision making for the surgical treatment could be challenging. Earlier Lempainen et al have shown that after rapid diagnosis and early surgery of the complete distal ST rupture, high level athletes could Return -toPlay in 5 months 6 . Therefore, we presume that athletes could also benefit from the reattachment of the retracted and symptomatic muscle when the conservative treatment seems to be insufficient.…”
