“…Nonetheless, there are several case reports in the literature reporting on the delayed formation of suture granulomas after Ethibond use, ranging from 4 months and up to 7 years postoperatively. 3 , 19 , 31 A retrospective case series (n = 672) investigating the rate of Ethibond-related suture granuloma formation after Achilles tendon repair in adults, found an incidence rate of 1.6% at a mean of 6 ± 3.2 months after surgery. 10 In our cohort, suture granulomas appeared on average at 1.67 ± 0.7 years postoperatively (range, 6-28 months).…”

“…Outside the upper limb, reactions to sutures have been misdiagnosed as an abscess [11] or a tumor [12] , [13] . In upper limb surgery, reactions to sutures used in a tendon repairs have also been misdiagnosed as a sarcoma [6] and excessive subcutaneous fibrosis [1] . A giant skin granuloma at the site of tendon repair should be considered as a suture reaction until proven otherwise.…”

“…Allergic reactions to sutures used in tendon repairs have been reported with polypropylene [1] , polyethylene [2] , braided polyester [3] , and suture anchors [4] . Delayed foreign body reactions to sutures have been reported following tendon repairs using polyester [5] , [6] , [7] , polyethylene [8] , and polyglactin [9] sutures as well as poly-lactide suture anchors [10] .…”

“…It can mimic soft-tissue sarcoma-both clinically and radiologically, adding to the diagnostic dilemma. 7 They might even manifest as discharging ulcers in and around the surgical site, which are a result of sinus tracts formed from the foreign-body granulomas to the skin.…”
