DISSIPATIVE SOLITON OPERATION OF AN Yb3+:Sc2SiO5 LASER IN THE VICINITY OF ZERO GROUP VELOCITY DISPERSION

Abstract: The authors report on the dissipative soliton operation of a diode pumped Yb 3þ :Sc 2 SiO 5 (Yb:SSO) laser in the vicinity of the zero group velocity dispersion (GVD). It is found that the soliton shaping in the laser is dominated by the third-order dispersion (TOD) of the cavity as reflected by the appearance of an asymmetrical spectral sideband in the soliton spectrum. Soliton pulses as short as 93 fs have been obtained in the laser. The authors show that the shortest soliton pulse achievable in the laser is… Show more

“…As the area from the CW part in the spectrum is small in comparison to the area of the modelocked spectrum, we conclude that this CW background is negligible compared to the modelocked pulse's energy. The peak slightly above 1050 nm is due to a mismatch in dispersion at that wavelength [35]- [37]. These peaks, called Kelly sidebands, are typical at the edges of broad spectra.…”

“…Recently, Tan et al reported the evidence of DS in an Yb:CaYAlO 4 (Yb:CYA) laser for the first time [10], the result has implied that the DS operation can exist in the positive cavity dispersion modelocking regime of the Yb doped solid state lasers. However, there are only several Yb-doped solid state bulk lasers have realized the DS operation [11,12].…”
