Disseminated intravascular coagulation with peripheral gangrene complicating acute appendicitis

Abstract: A case is reported of acute appendicitis complicatrd by disseminated intravascular coagulation and spasm of the peripheral arleries, which led to bilateral amputation of the feet. The cause of the complication is supposed to be endotoxaemia. The possibility of inhibited function of the patient's reticirlo-endotheliai system is suggested.
