Dissecting subcycle interference in photoelectron holography

Abstract: Multipath holographic interference in strong-field quantum tunnel ionization is key to revealing subangstrom attosecond dynamics for molecular movies. This critical subcycle motion is often obscured by longer timescale effects such as ring-shaped patterns that appear in above-threshold ionization (ATI). In the present work, we overcome this problem by combining two techniques in theory and experimental analysis: unit-cell averaging and time-filtering data and simulations. Together these suppress ATI rings and … Show more

“…Despite using a monochromatic field, we must restrict the ionization events to a finite temporal range, which introduce some artificial asymmetry depending on how this range is chosen. This can be eliminated by the incoherent averaging procedure described in [74]. In panels (c) and (f), we have consider the CQSFA and a slightly larger ionization potential (Ip = 0.175 a.u.)…”

“…The CQSFA is a path-integral strong-field approach that accounts for the driving field and the residual binding potential on equal footing, and has been applied by us to photoelectron holography by monochromatic fields [106][107][108][109][110][111]. Apart from excellent agreement with experiments [97,112,113], the CQSFA allows unprecedented control about what type of interference leads to specific structures, as specific types of orbits may be switched on and off at will. This article is organized as follows.…”

“…A restricted temporal unit cell is necessary for practical purposes, but may introduce some boundary effects. For a complete discussion see [79]. For Qprop, we have employed a four-cycle flat-top pulse with additional linear half-cycle turn on and off for the comparison to the CQSFA and SFA models.…”
