Disruption of C‐terminal tyrosine‐based internalization motifs and putative N‐terminal lysine residues increase the cell surface expression and activity of System xc−
Abstract:System xc− is a Na+‐independent, Cl−‐dependent transporter which exchanges intracellular glutamate for extracellular cystine across the plasma membrane. Its activity directly regulates the synthesis of the antioxidant glutathione and the extracellular concentration of glutamate in the brain. Dysregulation of the transporter can lead to excessive glutamate release and excitotoxic cell death or the depletion of glutathione stores and the development of oxidative stress. We recently demonstrated that oxidants acu… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
