Dispersion relations for SH waves propagation in a porous piezoelectric (PZT–PVDF) composite structure

Abstract: The propagation of shear horizontal waves in a porous piezoelectric composite structure is investigated analytically in this paper. A two-layer structure comprised of perfectly bonded piezoelectric layers is considered. The solution of mechanical displacement and electrical potential is found by solving the constitutive equation for a porous piezoelectric composite structure. Then the dispersion relation is derived for the wave propagation along the direction normal to layering and in the direction of layering… Show more

“…Effects of the filled fluid on the mechanical characteristics of the porous PE materials have been investigated both theoretically and experimentally, based on which the constitutive relations of porous PE materials were given [27,28]. Vashishth and Gupta [21,29], Gaur and Rana [30], and Wang [31] discussed the definition and effect of the pore size on dynamic characteristics of PE materials. Inspired by the development of nanoscience and technology, research works on porous materials and structures have been extended to nanoscale.…”

“…The piezoelectric effect depends on various parameters of the material such as elastic constant, porosity, density, and so on. Variation in porosity can control the acoustic impedance significantly (Gaur and Rana, 2015; Sharma, 2010; Vashishth and Gupta, 2009). By varying the porosity in piezoelectric material many problems like the rate of failure, the difference of impedance of piezo-composite device can be fixed accordingly.…”

“…There are many works about PZT and its applications, in addition, some scientist studied composite PZT material using Polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF) polymer materials and investigated their electromechanical properties [5][6][7][8][9][10]. PZT and PVDF composite materials show different electromechanical feautres when it's evaluated together as compared to individual [11,12].…”
