Dispersion of horizontally polarized shear waves in an irregular non-homogeneous self-reinforced crustal layer over a semi-infinite self-reinforced medium

Abstract: The present paper discusses the dispersion equation for horizontally polarized shear waves (SH waves) in a non-homogeneous self-reinforced layer over a semi infinite self-reinforced medium with an irregularity. The dispersion equation has been obtained in closed form. In the isotropic case, when non homogeneity and irregularity are absent, the dispersion equation reduces to standard SH wave equation. The dispersion curves have been presented by means of graphs for different sizes of irregularity and different … Show more

“…The idea of introducing a continuous reinforcement at every point of an elastic solid was given by Belfield et al [4]. Recently, some work related to Love wave propagation in fibrereinforced material with different geometries was done by Chattopadhyay et al [5,6]. The low weight and high strength of fibre-reinforced materials make its role crucial in the field of construction works.…”

“…The plane strain or generalized plane stress deformations of a linear elastic material reinforced by a single family of parallel inextensible fibres are deduced by England et al [2]. Chattopadhyay et al [3] discussed the dispersion equation for horizontally polarized shear waves in a non-homogeneous self-reinforced layer over a semi-infinite self-reinforced medium with an irregularity. The problem of reflection of plane waves due to an incident longitudinal wave at a plane free fibre-reinforced thermoelastic half-space has been investigated by Singh and Zorammuana [4].…”

“…They also discussed the reflection of these elastic waves from the free surface of a fibre-reinforced elastic half-space. Recently, Chattopadhyay et al (2013Chattopadhyay et al ( , 2010a and Chattopadhyay and Singh (2012a, b) attempted to investigate the effect of reinforcement on the propagation of magnetoelastic shear waves, torsional surface waves and crack.…”
