Dispersion and damping rates of dispersive Alfvén wave in a nonextensive plasma

Abstract: The dispersion and landau damping of the dispersive Alfvén waves (DAW) have been studied in the plasma with nonextensive electrons and ions. The conditions for the existence of inertial Alfvén waves (IAW) and kinetic Alfvén waves (KAW) are modified by electrons' nonextensive parameter qe. For IAW, βq ≪ me/mi; for KAW, me/mi ≪ βq ≪ 1, βq is the ratio of the effective thermal pressure to the magnetic pressure. In the plasma with superthermal particles, the frequency of the IAW and KAW will increase with the incr… Show more

“…Using a cylindrical coordinate system and defining the nondimensional integration variables t = v ⊥ /w ⊥s and u = v /w s , one obtains, after some straightforward algebra, the unified form n,κ (µ, ξ) and their derivatives, given by Eqs. (20) and (22). In this way, one arrives at the final expressions shown in Eqs.…”

“…The same approach was adopted on the more recent works by Basu [] and Liu et al [] in order to obtain expressions for the dispersion relations of the DAW. These authors were able to provide expressions for both the kinetic and inertial Alfvén waves, after expanding the Bessel functions in the case of small Larmor radius and using either the power series or the asymptotic expansions for Zκ()α,β.…”

“…Start from the nonextensive statistics, the dispersion of the plasma oscillations in a collisionless plasma has been revisited and renewed [25,26]. Theoretical results on ion acoustic waves [27] and dispersive Alfvén waves [28] in nonextensive plasmas have been reported, as well as experimental observation data which fits well with the model based on Tasllis statistics [29]. In particular, the collisionless damping of the GAM in two-component electron-ion plasmas with nonextensively distributed ions has been studied from the linear gyrokinetic theory [30], in which the effect of finite electron temperature is neglected.…”
