Disinfectant Use in the Hospital Environment for Microorganisms Control

Abstract: Studies indicate that the hospital has an important role in transmission of various pathogens. To minimize the spread of these microorganisms in hospitals, they proposed various forms of disinfection, however diversity and effectiveness of these methods are varied. Thus, this study aimed to understand the associations and approaches that have been reported in recent years on microorganisms control by disinfectants in the hospital environment, thus enabling the search for new strategies and/or implementation of… Show more

“…It is estimated that in 2011, 721,000 cases of HAIs occurred in United States acute care hospitals [ 2 ]. Healthcare-associated pathogens can colonize a vast array of environmental surfaces and patient care equipment in healthcare facilities and transmission from these surfaces to patients can lead to HAIs [ 3 , 4 ]. Disinfectant products are often used on environmental surfaces (e.g.…”

“…El estudio realizado por Korte et al, establece que para asegurar un uso eficiente de los desinfectantes: no se debe realizar la preparación y/o fraccionamiento de las soluciones antisépticas y desinfectantes en los servicios clínicos (30). Los desinfectantes y antisépticos deben usarse respetando las instrucciones del fabricante respecto a duración del producto, condiciones de conservación, tiempo de contacto y dilución, no es recomendable hacer mezclas para su uso (31,32).…”

“…The use of disinfectants may fail if it is not applied properly. An efficiency of up to 100% is achievable by handling disinfection products appropriately (8). Environmental sanitation applied in hospitals include cleanliness in every hospital area, clean water management, and waste management in hospitals (9).…”
