Abstract

The current Doctoral Thesis aims to design and apply a Mamdani fuzzy inference system (FIS) implemented in the software MATLAB Fuzzy Logic Toolbox and enables the analysis of risks associated with I+D projects in the additive manufacturing (AM) sector and the mining industry (MI).The first type of projects investigated in this study are those related to the AM sector. Academics and experts in the industry have singled out the AM as a technology that is reshaping the manufacturing sector. It is a process that involves the incorporation of a material, such as metal or polymer, layer by layer to create a three-dimensional object.This research studies the risks associated with R&D projects in the AM sector. A significant set of risks with a potential negative impact on project objectives in terms of scope, schedule, cost, and quality were identified through an extensive literature review.These risks were assessed through a survey answered by ninety academics and professionals with noteworthy sector expertise. This process was made by the measurement of two parameters: likelihood of occurrence and impact on project objectives in terms of scope, schedule, cost, and quality. According to the responses of the experts, the level of relevance of each risk is calculated, innovatively, through a Mamdani FIS implemented in the software MATLAB Fuzzy Logic Toolbox.
