This article aims to provide a virtual reconstruction of the skyscraper Hotel Attraction based on the original documentation, which makes it possible to analyze the project and propose hypotheses regarding the contradictory information in the original drawings. The geometry of the project has been defined using a physics-based simulation, emulating Gaudí’s methodology in his models. To define the curves, a model based on weighted hanging chains has been generated, using a system with springs and particles. This method has made it possible to precisely control the catenary deformation, avoiding the definition of each curve independently in favor of a unified approach. Over 300 m tall, the Hotel Attraction would have been the tallest skyscraper in the world at the time.

La creciente complejidad en el diseño de arquitectura contemporánea ha dado lugar a superficies de forma libre que no pueden resolverse mediante métodos tradicionales de diseño y construcción. Adquiere especial relevancia el estudio de la continuidad de superficies y curvas NURBS, bien sea para segmentar una superficie compleja en fragmentos que permitan su racionalización o para el diseño mediante la agregación de varias superficies buscando la uniformidad del conjunto. Se analizan diferentes métodos de establecer una continuidad entre NURBS, atendiendo a los diferentes parámetros que definen las NURBS y su influencia en el nivel de suavidad y desviación obtenidas.

Urban Environment of Disappeared Heritage: Graphic Analysis of Puerta Real in Seville

The city of Seville experienced a remarkable rise in the 16th century thanks to trade with America. Based on a report by the architect Hernán Ruiz, it was decided to renovate the gates of the walled city. The Puerta Real, also called Puerta de Goles, was remodelled between 1560 and 1566, and King Philip II entered through it in 1570. However, it was demolished around 1864, and only the remains of the adjacent wall stand today. This research aims to graphically analyse the gate and its immediate surroundings to gain a more profound knowledge of it and to promote its heritage value. To this end, an extensive collection and analysis of historical images has been carried out, which are essential for understanding the transformations of the site. A photograph by Masson (c. 1855–1860) was next used to support the virtual reconstruction of the gate. A 3D laser scanner was also used to document the existing archaeological remains and, via game-engine technology, to recreate rigorously, for the first time, this 16th-century gate in its current environment. This research could be useful for future scientific reconstruction to promote the heritage revitalisation of this city area.
