Discrimination by Black Males Revisited:

Abstract: In an earlier article on faculty salary discrimination at a Southern, historically black, public university (SHBU), the authors presented evidence of salary discrimination by black males against other race‐sex groups (Riggs and Dwyer 1995). The authors now contrast SHBU's salary model with the model of Riggs and Dwyer and apply the latter to new data to determine whether SHBU eliminated race and sex discrimination in faculty salaries. After equity adjustments, the evidence suggests that SHBU has eliminated the… Show more

“…The quaternary assemblage of the Hb subunits into its functional structure is remarkably diverse, ranging from the monomeric Hbs of bacteria to the gigantic 144-subunit Hb of annelid [10,12]. The quaternary interactions play an important role in modulating the ligand binding affinity of Hb.…”

“…In vertebrates, Hb serves as an oxygen carrier that transports oxygen to local tissues through the vascular system. It was recently discovered that, in addition to vertebrates, Hb is also widely distributed among prokaryotes, eukaryotes, plants and invertebrates (see [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] and the Hb reviews in this issue). The physiological functions of these new Hbs are much more diverse.…”

“…Once hemolysis has occurred and hemoglobin is released from within the erythrocyte, where in mammals its concentration is on the order of 5 mM [83], Hb tetramers can dissociate to heterodimers. In dilute solutions, dissociation can proceed even further to monomeric globin species [84].…”
