Abstract: Herein, a novel borate Sr2Cd4(B2O5)3 was developed and synthesized based on the strategy of introducing distorted [MOn] polyhedra and near parallel arranged π-conjugated [B2O5] units. This crystal shows a large birefringence of 0.102 at 532 nm.
