Discovery and identification of potential biomarkers for alcohol‐induced oxidative stress based on cellular metabolomics

Abstract: Biomarkers involved in alcohol-induced oxidative stress play an important role in alcoholic liver disease prevention and diagnosis. Alcohol-induced oxidative stress in human liver L-02 cells was used to discover the potential biomarkers. Metabolites from L-02 cells induced by alcohol were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Fourteen metabolites that allowed discrimination between control and model groups were discovered by multivariate statistical data analysis (i.e. princ… Show more

“…However, this study assessed the influence of longer-term exposure to smoking and alcohol, but did not specifically test the effect of these exposures in the short period prior to blood collection. Alcohol-related metabolome alterations have been previously associated with oxidative stress [30,31] and diseases, including cancers [32,33]. However, we do not report any significant differences in studied metabolites by alcohol or tobacco consumption around blood sample collection.…”

“…Activation of spinal cord microglia, mGlu5 spinal cord receptors, and hypothalamicpituitary-adrenal axis appear to be implicated in this process [92][93][94][95][96][97]. Oxidative stress also leads to the indirect damage of nerve fibers via the release of free radicals and proinflammatory cytokines with protein kinase C and ERK kinase phosphorylation [98][99][100][101]. Besides, ALN is characterized by insulin and insulin-like growth factor (IGF) resistance, which results in impaired trophic factor signaling [102,103].…”
