Psychoanalysis is gaining widespread popularity as a therapeutic model in China. However, the absence of local accredited psychoanalytic training institutes necessitates that Chinese trainees and clinicians often receive supervision from European or American supervisors through online platforms. A key component of effective supervision is the willingness of the supervisees to disclose. This openness not only solidifies the supervisory alliance but also improves the supervisee’s self-awareness, self-efficacy, knowledge, and therapeutic skills. Emerging research highlights the significant role of cultural factors in shaping supervisory relationships. Our study aims to: (a) compare the disclosure and nondisclosure rates in clinical supervision between Chinese supervisees and their counterparts from Western cultures, and (b) examine the association between these behaviors and variables related to the therapeutic process among Chinese supervisees. We will employ a cross-sectional design, targeting Chinese psychoanalytic clinicians, both trainees and licensed professionals, engaged in individual clinical supervision. Recruitment will be primarily through the China American Psychoanalytic Alliance mailing list, complemented by snowball sampling. Data will be collected through an online survey hosted on the REDCap platform, focusing on the primary clinical supervisor of the participants and their supervisory experience. This research aims to provide insights that could enable supervisors of Chinese trainees to better understand and adapt to the relational dynamics in supervisory contexts. Additionally, it will lay the foundation for more detailed qualitative investigations into the experiences of Chinese psychoanalytic supervisees, potentially informing future supervisory practices and training methodologies.

The concept of therapeutic courage is considered to be an essential therapist variable and is now at a stage of accumulating empirical support. The present study examined the subjective experience of therapeutic courage in Japanese novice therapists in order to gain insight into how culture and clinical experience contribute to the conceptualization and exercise of therapeutic courage. A total of 15 therapists with an average of 4.2 years of clinical experience were interviewed about therapy situations in which they were able or unable to exercise courage. The data was analyzed using grounded theory approach, which generated three main categories: living up to the professional role, keeping the balance, and tapping into an authentic voice. Japanese novice therapists were likely to be inhibited in their therapeutic courage due to feelings of incompetence, rigid views about presumed professional code of conduct and the fear of external evaluation. Taking action based on courage was a deliberated and well thought out decision. The role of therapeutic courage in the professional development of psychotherapists, as well as cultural influences, are discussed.

a supervisão é uma intersecção entre o aprender teórico e a prática, seguindo as três missões principais: normativa, restaurativa e formativa. Assim, se torna importante a relação entre terapeuta-supervisor, já que esse vínculo tem influência direta na equação total que envolve a psicoterapia e o manejo de emoções emergidas do processo. Objetivo(s): estruturar uma perspectiva atualizada da supervisão clínica, pautada no papel constitutivo da emoção e do relacionamento entre terapeuta e supervisor. Procura-se compreender como é dado a construção das relações entre supervisor e supervisionado e compreender o papel de emoções e sentimentos envolvidos no processo e o manejo da supervisão clínica. Método: 6 supervisandas, todas mulheres, participaram de grupos focais realizados virtualmente na plataforma Microsoft Teams, após assinatura do Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido (TCLE). Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa descritiva e interpretativa, cuja coleta de dados seguiu o método da Teoria Fundamentada em Dados (TFD), a qual também orientou a análise de dados com a estratégia de interpretação descritiva e codificação das transcrições das entrevistas. Resultado(s): emergiram das análises três eixos: a relação com o cliente, a relação com o grupo de supervisão e a relação com o supervisor. Desses três eixos, surgiram nove categorias e quarenta e um códigos que dialogam para o entendimento da construção do processo de supervisão e das emoções envolvidas. Conclusão: o supervisor que dialoga promovendo a autonomia e um ambiente não coercitivo inspira confiança do supervisionado, o que torna a supervisão um espaço de troca e integração, na qual as emoções não são vistas como algo negativo ou errado. Além disso, fortalece o vínculo supervisor-supervisionado promovendo uma troca para além do conteúdo teórico e segurança em relatar, inclusive, possíveis erros durante o atendimento psicoterápico.
