Directions in modelling environments

Abstract: Schema definition is a vital component in the development of computerised A/E/C projects, but existing tools to manage this task are limited both in terms of the scope of problems they can tackle and their integration with each other. This paper describes a global modelling and development environment for large modelling projects. This environment provides a total solution from initial design of schemas to validation, manipulation and navigation through final models. A major benefit of the described system is … Show more

“…It is built upon CAD tool and transfers information via the STEP, IFC standard. A simulation environment suitable for the global model and the large-scale model project was introduced to use ISO standard model language and can provide users with both text and graphics simulation information [194]. An activity process model that can be used in the construction phase [195] and a parametric model that is considered as an effective model for construction of the knowledge embedded in the professional domain [196] were both introduced in 2006.…”

“…Efforts such as ID'EST, EDM, and COMBINE [Kim et al 1997, Eastman & Siabiris 1995, Augenbroe 1995, Amor et al 1995 have focused on developing sharable product models and databases of increasing sophistication that include factual information about the objects they describe, with particular emphasis on solving issues of concurrency, data-integrity, and data-sharing [Eastman 1994, Galle 1995, Jacobsen et al 1997, Sun & Lockley 1997, Yaski 1981. Most of these methods assume that the data will be accessed by suitable computer programs.…”

“…The COMBINE project, working with the STEP standard, deals with a neutral file exchange of data among various application programs-primarily energy and HVAC (Amor et al 1995). It does have, at its core, an integrated data model for the building description, which gets translated to the applications.…”
