Directional effect on the fusion of ellipsoidal morphologies into nanorods and nanotubes

Abstract: Herein, a directional fusion of ellipsoidal morphologies into nanorods and nanotubes was demonstrated through the study of polymerization-induced self-assembly behaviors of semi-fluorinated liquid-crystalline block copolymers.

“…also introduced into PI-CDSA system. [161][162][163][164][165][166] For example, Yuan et al studied the self-assembly behavior of BCPs containing poly(2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMA) and poly(2-(perfluorooctyl)ethyl methacrylate) (PFOEMA). [164] Due to the LC nature of PFOEMA block, the PDMA-b-PFOEMA could be aggregated into cylindrical micelles.…”

“…An advantage observed upon the introduction of a LC group was the reduction in the polymer dispersity (Ð) with higher LC content. While few PISA studies have been performed with steroid-based monomers, the field is starting to gain traction with recent publications focused on the introduction of perfluorinated LC, monomers [55][56][57][58][59][60], biphenyls [61] and azobenzenes [62][63][64]. The structures seen within these systems show unique properties such as physical rearrangements upon thermal stimuli.…”
