Direction-Variable Beam by Decentered Annular Array Sound Source with Rounded Width of Elements

Abstract: In this paper, we describe an examination of a direction-variable beam generated by a sound source that causes the decentering operation of the equiamplitude-driven annular array. In the presented method, we apply a rounding operation for the width of each annular array element. From results of the calculations carried out for examining the effect on the shape of the radiated sound beams, it is shown that the beam profiles exhibit no marked turbulence in comparison with the profile in which the rounding operat… Show more

“…Since most ultrasonic methods use ultrasonic transducers as a transmitter or receiver, the improvements of the measurements are a result of many studies on ultrasonic transducers. [82][83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90][91][92] In some applications, laser-induced ultrasonic pulses are used as an ultrasonic wave source. [93][94][95][96][97] Air-coupled ultrasound is also used for some measurements such as surface roughness, displacement, target detection, and non-contact inspection.…”

“…Applying this analysis method, and using an annular transducer array, a method for forming a directional-trimmed nondiffraction acoustic beam was also proposed. 8,9) Owing to the effect of the four vertices and four sides, the behavior of the edge waves from the rectangular transducer becomes complicated, and the waveform, which is acquired by driving the sound source, also complicatedly changes with a dependence on the position of the observation point. Therefore, the spatial impulse responses of the rectangular transducer and the radiated sound fields from the rectangular transducer have been analyzed by various techniques.…”
