Direct Restoration of Worn Maxillary Anterior Teeth with a Combination of Composite Resin Materials: A Case Report

Abstract: Tooth loss, alterations on tooth structure, and reduced vertical dimension are known to severely compromise the stomatognathic system. This case report describes the treatment of a patient who presented with an extremely worn maxillary anterior dentition with a loss of posterior support owing to the loss of almost all the posterior teeth, except the mandibular premolars. Provisional removable partial dentures were used to create an optimum maxillomandibular relationship and to provide restorative space prior t… Show more

“…The possibility of development of pain on TMJs or muscles is highly increased20, but it these cases the masticatory function will certainly be already compromised. Thus, the patient needs to return into a healthy functional condition prior to any rehabilitation therapy28. Pharmacologic treatments and intraoral devices are some of these treatment modalities, and intraoral occlusal splints, as used in this case, seem to be an acceptable short-term alternative12.…”

“…It serves as a guide to the need for correction of pre-existing condition such as collapsed vertical dimension and also helps the patient to relive anxiety about the loss of good facial appearance. In this way a provisional prosthesis fulfils many functions, the most important are the elimination and avoidance of pain and the return to the state of comfort and reasonable function [8]. In this case, the patient received a provisional prosthesis to recover the natural vertical dimension of occlusion, creating the necessary space for aesthetic restorations and making possible a comfortable and functional situation.…”

“…It involves early diagnosis and treatment, improving the oral environment, reducing the caries risk, reversal of dental caries, and minimal surgical intervention procedures. Treatment options included adhesive restorations, 12,13 overdentures, 14 occlusal overlay splint, 15,16 removable partial denture, 17 fixed partial denture, or crowns and implants. 18 Due to the reduced amount of available tooth structure with no loss of vertical dimension and patient's economic and time constraints, root canal treatments of the deep carious teeth were done by reinforcement of the same teeth with prefabricated glass fiber posts (Fig.…”
