Direct multielement determination of Cd, Pb, Fe, and Mn in ground coffee samples using energy dispersive X‐ray fluorescence spectrometry

Abstract: An analytical method was proposed for the quantification of Cd, Pb, Mn, and Fe in ground coffee samples using energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometry. External calibration was possible using the coffee matrix itself as standards with samples previously analyzed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES). The ground coffee samples were analyzed in the form of pellets, which were placed in the center of the EDXRF measuring cell for the determination of the analytes. T… Show more

“…It can be seen from Figure 7 that the W characteristic X-ray intensity of different diameters tungsten particles is various at different depths of the zirconium alloy. According to the formula [32,33], the detection limit of the W peak can be calculated. e results are shown in Table 3.…”

“…The HG-ICP-MS method achieved an LOD of 0.008 AE 0.001 mg L À1 for total Sb. External reproducibility from independently digested and puried CRMs was found to be 0.05& for d 123 Sb. Another interesting piece of work 71 reported total Cu and Cu isotope determination in microvolumes of serum (2 to 15 mL) for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment follow-up in Wilson's disease.…”

“…The work demonstrated the potential use of EDXRF for honey authentication. Almeida et al 123 described the direct analysis of ground coffee by EDXRF spectrometry. Quantitative analysis for Cd, Fe, Mn and Pb was achieved through external calibration using the concentrations from the samples obtained from MAD and ICP-OES analysis compared to the intensities of pelletised ground coffee by XRF spectrometry.…”

“…The lower limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) were calculated from the following equations: LOD=3×a×italicBGt=3×a×BG×tt LQD=3.3×LOD where a is the slope of the calibration curve, in (μg/g) × s, and BG is the measurement intensity background, in cps, provide by the instrument, and t is the irradiation time, in seconds, for the measurement. [ 18,19 ] The blank sample was high‐purity solvent. Calculated from the results of blank sample, the LOD of sulfur in gasoline was 1.75 μg/g, as listed in Table 6.…”
