Direct mediation of metastable supersymmetry breaking

Abstract: The supersymmetric SUN C Yang-Mills theory coupled to N F matter fields in the fundamental representation has metastable vacua with broken supersymmetry when N C < N F < 3 2 N C . By gauging the flavor symmetry, this model can be coupled directly to the standard model. We show that it is possible to make a slight deformation to the model so that gaugino masses are generated and the Landau pole problem can be avoided. The deformed model has simple realizations on intersecting branes in string theory, where vari… Show more

“…However, the possibility of a window where such a mechanism can work is not ruled out. 8 An alternative scenario concerns models of DGM which present an MSSM sparticle spectrum where the gaugino mass is suppressed or of the same order of the (positive) sfermion masses. Here the SDGM can provide a negative contribution to the sfermion masses in order to invert this hierarchy.…”

“…Though models which cure some of these problems exist (possibly based on metastable hidden sectors, see e.g. [8]), it would be desirable to single out general properties of models which are phenomenologically viable.…”

“…In presence of the meson mass terms (3.4), in addition to the ISS vacuum (2.6), other non-SUSY vacua can appear [21]. They can be dangerous if less energetic than the ISS vacuum, since the latter can decay through tunneling too quickly to them.…”

“…Supersymmetric vacua 9 are expected when the mesons get a large VEV, in analogy with [15,21]. The scalar potential has a local maximum at the origin in field space, with energy V M ax = 5µ 4 , while at the local minimum V M in = µ 4 .…”

“…[9], many direct gauge mediation models have been constructed based on the ISS supersymmetry breaking models (See Refs. [13,14,15,16,17] for early applications.). 2 There are two common features shared by the direct gauge mediation models based on the ISS supersymmetry breaking models.…”
