“…The proposed model is validated in this section by comparing model predictions with previously published narrow-beam spectral measurements. Figure 5 shows analytical calculations compared with measurements performed by Bhat et al 43 and Fewell et al 48 in the energy range 50-100 kV, and measurements performed by Santos et al 44 The model is in good agreement with measurements (< 2% difference in aluminum HVL) for a wide range of tube potentials and target-filter combinations typically used in diagnostic x-ray imaging and mammography. Both the bremsstrahlung component and the characteristic x-ray emission are described by the model.…”

“…Santos et al 44 measured clinical mammographic x-ray spectra using a CdTe spectrometer with a corrective stripping procedure applied. 49 The reduction in detector efficiency caused by photon absorption in the entrance window and the escape of K x rays was corrected for based on MC simulations using the PENELOPE MC system.…”

“…The sensitive element of the spectrometer was a 9 mm³ CdTe crystal, protected by a 1 mm thick Beryllium window. The voltage which biased the detection crystal was of 500 V. The spectrometer alignment with the radiation beam was obtained following the method described bySantos et al (Santos et al 2017) Picture of the used spectrometry acquisition system, an Amptek XR-100T coupled with an Amptek PX4 MCA.…”
