Due to the extremely high power conversion efficiency under indoor light, aesthetic appeal, and safety, the mature technology of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is now considered as one of the most budding technologies to address the fast-growing need for cordless power in countless IoT devices and wireless sensors. The monolithic design of DSSCs (M-DSSCs) is technologically attractive for commercial production offering straightforward processing in-series modules, low cost, and compactness. The advancements in liquid-junction M-DSSCs reported so far are related only to conventional Ru-dye and I 3 − /I − electrolyte devices. The present study reports a M-DSSC incorporating a Co(III)/(II)(bpy) 3 redox shuttle and a YD2-o-C8 porphyrin dye and developed using commercial materials. The apparent activation energy for electron transfer, electron charge-transfer resistance, and exchange current density on FTO−Pt nanoparticles, Pt metal, graphite/carbon-black, and PEDOT:PSS in the cobalt electrolyte were determined to identify the favorable counter-electrode. The impact of the electrical spacer layers made from conventional ZrO 2 and highly reflective rutile TiO 2 on the photocurrent quantum yield was also assessed. The recombination-suppressing additive concentration in the electrolyte and photoanode sensitization conditions were thoroughly optimized to render M-DSSC devices with a photocurrent conversion efficiency of 9.5% under 1-sun illumination, which is by far the highest reported for M-DSSCs. The high power conversion efficiency of ca. 22% was attained under 1000 lx artificial light, making the developed M-DSSCs very attractive for indoor use.

In this study, the functional polymers containing heterocyclic ligands were synthesized by microwave modification of a crosslinked poly(vinylbenzyl chloride-divinylbenzene) matrix with 4-tertbutylpyridine, pyrrolidine, and 3-morpholinopropylamine. The sorbents were used to recover Ag(I) from the synthetic and real chloride solutions (4.00 mol/dm 3 of NaCl, 0.100 mol/dm 3 of HCl). The best Ag(I) sorption was achieved from synthetic and real chloride solutions in the case of pyrrolidine resin (16.2 and 16.7 mg/g, respectively). The sorption kinetic data were well fitted to the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The degree of silver desorption was approximately 90% using a 1.0% potassium cyanide solution in a 0.50% hydrogen peroxide solution. All resins showed good selectivity for Ag(I) compared to Cu(II), Pb(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) in real chloride solution. On the basis of this study, it can be concluded that the obtained sorbents can be used to recover Ag from various sources such as ores, wastewater, and jewelry scraps.

While the Lithium ion modification strategy is widely adopted in tuning the bandgap of semiconductors in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), such strategy is yet to be applied to semiconductor‐based surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), which is also a photo‐induced charge‐transfer (CT) process. Here, a new DSSCs‐inspired modification method is proposed for TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs): through the adsorption of Li+, the surface states of TiO2 NPs are more abundant, so that the SERS intensity and charge transfer of the adsorbed molecule are significantly enhanced. Similar to DSSCs systems, it is found that the conduction band edge and surface state energy level of TiO2 NPs shift downward with increasing Li+ concentration, which facilitates the CT interaction between the molecules and the SERS substrates. The EF can reach to 104, 1–2 degrees higher than previously reported pure semiconductors. This is the first time to use the DSSCs‐inspired Li+ adsorption strategy on TiO2 NPs as SERS substrate to investigate its SERS enhancement effect, which may provide new ideas for the development of semiconductor nanomaterials in the research of SERS substrates.
