“…The digital ion imaging system includes several novel features or improvements relative to the only previously published approach to digital imaging with the ion microscope (Furman & Morrison, 1980) including: (1) ultrahigh detection sensitivity is achieved via the use of a dual microchannel plate detector and a digital CID camera; (2) a novel interactively compiled BASIC with assembly language extensions is used to combine the execution efficiency of complied language with the interactive features of interpreted language; (3) correlative digital microscopy is achieved by overlaying morphological information (e.g. digitized light micrographs) and chemical information (digital secondary ion images).…”
