Direct and indirect Z-scheme heterostructure-coupled photosystem enabling cooperation of CO2 reduction and H2O oxidation

Abstract: The stoichiometric photocatalytic reaction of CO 2 with H 2 O is one of the great challenges in photocatalysis. Here, we construct a Cu 2 O-Pt/SiC/IrO x composite by a controlled photodeposition and then an artificial photosynthetic system with Nafion membrane as diaphragm separating reduction and oxidation half-reactions. The artificial system exhibits excellent photocatalytic performance for CO 2 reduction to HCOOH and H 2 O oxidation to O 2 under visible light irradiation. The yields of HCOOH and O 2 meet a… Show more

“…Early work by Walter and Cline [ 2–6 ] showed that eutectic systems of β‐NiAl, where a solid‐solution body‐centered cubic (bcc) phase is embedded in the B2‐ordered NiAl phase, exhibit improved fracture properties. Especially the addition of Cr and Mo increases the fracture toughness to values of 14.528.6 MPam, [ 7–9 ] compared with 1.8 MPam of pure NiAl when tested in the soft orientation and 6.9 MPam in the hard orientation. [ 10 ]…”

“…Recently, both inorganic and organic materials have been reported for photocatalytic applications such as water reduction, water oxidation, and CO 2 reduction. [74][75][76][77] Currently, MOFs have been developed as new types of photocatalysts. The structure of MOFs facilitates them to be readily immobilized with photocatalytic active sites.…”

“…However, for mono-component semiconductor, it is impossible to satisfy all of these demands at the same time. Over the past decades, researchers have developed various strategies to improve photocatalytic property, including phase and morphology regulating, elements doping, cocatalyst-loading, defect engineering and heterojunction constructing [7][8][9][10][11] . Among these strategies, defect engineering and heterojunction constructing are the two-effective means.…”
