Diptera, Drosophilidae: historical occurrence in Brazil

Abstract: This study presents a literature review of Drosophilidae (Diptera) species occurrence in Brazil. The number of species recorded is 304, with Drosophila being the genus with the greatest number of species, followed by Zygothrica, Hirtodrosophila and Diathoneura, which belong to the Drosophilinae subfamily. Drosophila was shown to be the most investigated taxon in the family, with the best resolved species distribution. The low number of records of species from other genera indicates the paucity of studies speci… Show more

“…An interesting result of this study concerns the high level of cryptic diversity. In addition to the 22 species that have been previously described, we sampled at least 24 putative new species, which should be further described and added to the list of 75 Brazilian species included in the Zygothrica genus group (Vilela & B€ achli, 2007;Gottschalk et al, 2008;Robe et al, 2014). Nevertheless, cryptic or unregistered diversity levels are probably still underestimated.…”

“…Among the 58 species, 31 had their first record in the Paraná state, Brazil (revision of Gottschalk et al, 2008). The tripunctata group had the higher richness (Table 2).…”
