“…TCDFs suggest sources originating from PCB mixtures, chlorobenzenes, chlor-alkali 388 processes, or the incineration of PCBs and PVC (Hilscherova et al, 2003, Kannan et al, 389 1998, Masunaga et al, 2001and Rackwitz et al, 1991 Ramona Carr for providing a map of the Burrishoole. “…Additionally, 1,3,6,8-and 1,3,7,9-TCDDs were dominant isomers in all of the samples. These dioxins are known to be impurities in the agrochemical chloronitrofen (CNP) 12) , which was one of the principal herbicides used in paddy fields in Japan in the past. These findings suggest that CNP might have been a major source of the PCDDs/PCDFs in the samples.…”

“…These findings suggest that CNP might have been a major source of the PCDDs/PCDFs in the samples. OCDD is also known to be present as an impurity in the agrochemical pentachlorophenol (PCP) 12) , which was one of the principal herbicides used in paddy fields in Japan. However, the isomer was not dominant in the total PCDD/PCDF contents in all of the samples.…”

“…The sawmill site has been contaminated for decades by spills of Dowicide G, the sodium pentachlorophenate (NaPCP) preservative from Dow Sweden Ltd. (Persson et al, 2007;Länsstyrelsen Värmland, 2010;Henriksson et al, 2013). Dowicide G and other chlorophenolbased preservatives contained polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), unintentionally formed during their fabrication (Rappe and Garå, 1978, Hagenmaier and Brunner, 1987, Masunaga et al, 2001). An earlier study showed that a soil sample from the preservation area had a PCDD/Fs concentration of 690,000 ng TEQ WHO2005 /kg d.w. (Henriksson et al, 2013).…”
