Abstract:Diosgenin (DG) is a saponin glycoside and an active constituent generally present in medicinal plants like Rhizoma polgonita, Trigonella foenum, Dioscorea villosa and Dioscorea rhizome. It is also the starting material for the biosynthesis of steroidal hormones.
