Dionysius of Rome

Abstract: Dionysius of Rome, bishop 259/60–267/8 CE , held the Roman see during the crucial years of recovery that followed the emperor Valerian's persecution of the Christian Church. Little is known of Dionysius' life before he became bishop, although he may have been of Greek descent.
