Diol responsive viscosity increase in a cetyltrimethylammonium bromide/sodium salicylate/3-fluorophenylboronic acid micelle system

Abstract: We report a novel smart micellar system utilising a phenylboronic acid (PBA) derivative whose viscosity increases on adding diol compounds such as sugar or sugar alcohol.

“…For quantitatively evaluating the two crucial properties of selfhealing hydrogels, namely, gelation and viscosity, dynamic viscoelasticity measurement is a widely used method. 12,13,[27][28][29][30]35 The dynamic viscoelastic properties of BA-HA/Sal-HA were investigated. The storage modulus (G 0 ) and loss modulus (G 00 ) were obtained from the dynamic viscoelasticity measurements, which showed the solid and liquid properties, respectively.…”

“…The G 0 and G 00 values of boronate-ester-cross-linked hydrogels are strongly frequency (o) dependent. 12,13,[27][28][29][30]35 The frequency dependence of the BA-HA/Sal-HA system was investigated at a fixed strain of 10% (Fig. 7a).…”
