Dimethyl and diphenyl formamide complexes of lanthanide perchlorates

Abstract: N,N-Dimethyl formamide (DMF) and N,N-diphenyl formamide (DPF) complexes of six lanthanide perchlorates of the composition M(DMF)8(C104)3 and M(DPF), (ClO,), where M = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, or Y have been prepared and characterized. The infrared spectra show that the amide is bonded to the metal through oxygen. Conductivity, molecular weight, and spectral studies indicate coordinationnumbers of eight and six for DMF and DPF complexes respectively, with the perchlorate groups remaining ionic.

“…This suggests that ClO 4 ) is outside the coordination sphere of the complexes [23]. In all the cobalt(II) thiocyanate complexes the three fundamental absorptions, i.e., (C-N) stretching (m 1 ), (C-S) stretch (m 3 ) and (N-C-S) bending (m 2 ), are identified in the 2045-2035, 845-835 and 475-470 cm )1 regions, respectively.…”

“…The occurrence of two strong bands at ~1080 and 620 cm -1 in the spectra of perchlorato complexes attributed to ν 3 and ν 4 vibrations of the ionic perchlorate suggest [46,47] that the perchlorate group are present outside the coordination sphere [48][49][50]. In present complexes [Ln(CAAPS) 2 .DPSO](ClO 4 ) 3 , the presence of very strong ν 3 band is in 1105-1080 cm -1 and strong narrow ν 4 band is 630-620 cm -1 region indicate tetrahedral symmetry of the perchlorate ion, which is not bonded to Ln 3+ ion [49][50] (Table 5).…”

“…In all the perchlorate complexes [Ln(ebaaps) 2 .py](ClO 4 ) 3 , only two strong n 3 complexation and that these ions are not bonded to Ln 3+ ions 33,34 . This conclusion is also supported by the conductance and molecular weight data.…”
