Dimensionality Trends in Metal−Organic Frameworks Containing Perfluorinated or Nonfluorinated Benzenedicarboxylates

Abstract: A new family of hybrid inorganic-organic materials has been synthesized using a combination of flexible bis-pyridyl ligands in conjunction with a perfluorinated or nonfluorinated benzenedicarboxylate ligand. A significant difference between the carboxylate torsion angles of the fluorinated and nonfluorinated ligands leads to the formation of markedly different structures for the two groups of materials. No isostructural phases were found, and the use of perfluorinated ligands tends to increase the dimensionali… Show more

“…These angles are summarized in Table for UoC‐1(1F) and selected MOFs with a Cu 2 paddlewheel unit. For the enlarged torsion angles steric effects as well as electronic effects [reduced aromatic character of the C(phenyl)–COO – bond] are discussed , , . In CuMBTC and CuEBTC, methyl and ethyl groups, respectively, were introduced in ortho position to the carboxylate groups of a trimesate ligand .…”

“…Some studies on the interesting coordination of Co(II) and isophthalic acid or its derivatives and their solid state properties have been reported [4,15,[17][18][19][20]. Here, we report two new coordination poly mers by self assembly of 4 bromoisophthalic acid (H 2 Bript) and Co(II) salts with Bipy and Phen, 1 The article is published in the original.…”

“…Crystals obtained from this solvent matrix cell lose their crystallinity on removal of the mother-liquor, indicated by the fact that they cease to show extinction under polarized light. Single crystals of Zn-pytz(hydro), were produced by autoclave synthesis, the procedure used was adapted from those of Hijikata et al [31] and Hulvey et al [32]. 0.3 mmol Zn(NO 3 ) 2¨6 H 2 O, 0.9 mmol (NH 4 ) 2 SiF 6 and 0.6 mmol pytz in a 15 mL of 1 part dimethylformamide to 4 parts H 2 O was heated at 383 K for 18 h, before cooling to 293 K at 5 K/min.…”
