Dihydroartemisinin Reduces Irradiation-Induced Mitophagy and Radioresistance in Lung Cancer A549 Cells via CIRBP Inhibition

Abstract: Radiotherapy is a major therapeutic strategy for lung cancer, and radiation resistance (radioresistance) is an important cause of residual and recurring cancer after treatment. However, the mechanism of radioresistance remains unclear. Mitochondrial autophagy (mitophagy), an important selective autophagy, plays an important role in maintaining cell homeostasis and affects the response to therapy. Recent studies have shown that dihydroartemisinin (DHA), a derivative of artemisinin, can increase the sensitivity … Show more

“…DHA can reduce the proliferation of breast cancer cells by inhibiting STAT3 phosphorylation, inducing apoptosis and reversing cisplatin resistance (24). DHA exerts antitumor effects by inhibiting glycolysis, promoting autophagy and inducing mitochondrial ATP production (25). The present study investigated the effects of DHA on the mitochondrial function, cytoskeleton, proliferation, migration and invasion of liver cancer cells through ATP probes, ROS, cytoskeleton, colony formation, EDU, cell scratch, and Transwell experiments.…”

“…Radiotherapy, a primary treatment for NSCLC, often encounters challenges with radiation resistance, a significant factor in residual and recurring cancer post-treatment. Research indicates that DHA can inhibit mitophagy, potentially decreasing radiation resistance and enhancing the therapeutic effect against NSCLC ( 180 ).…”

“…Successful metastasis necessitates not only ample energy for cancer cells but also alterations in cell-to-cell interactions and migratory capabilities. Mitophagy modulates these aspects by influencing various intracellular signaling pathways and molecules, thereby affecting cellular adhesion, motility, and invasive potential ( Liu D. et al, 2021 ; Wu et al, 2022 ; Liu Z. et al, 2023 ; Li et al, 2023 ).…”
